  • 1994 to 1999: PhD, Bayreuth Institute for Terrestrial Ecosystem Research, University of Bayreuth, Germany

  • 1989-1991: Master of Science, Department of Botany, National Taiwan University

  • 1986-1989: Bachelor of Science, Department of Botany, National Taiwan University

  • 1984-1986: Department of Naval Architecture, National Taiwan University

Shih-Chieh Chang is an ecosystem ecologist with his research focus on carbon fluxes of forest ecosystems. He and his colleagues established the long-term ecosystem research site - the Chi-Lan Mountain (CLM) site - in 2002 and since then work on that montane cloud forest. The early works on that site were nutrient cycling, fog meteorology, and fog deposition. Certainly the fog-related studies have been continued to today, e.g. the distribution map of cloud forest has been published recently through the collaboratory work with Jörg Bendix's team of the University of Marburg, Germany. Shih-Chieh Chang's major efforts on carbon budget study were the development of chamber technique for continuous measurements in the field.

Research Assistant

Chie-Yu Hong received her master degree from the Graduate Institute of Tourism and Recreation Management of National Dong Hwa University. She is an expert in design and construction of automated chamber system.

Chia-Hsin Wu

PhD student

Chia-Hsin Wu received her master degree from the Graduate Institute of Natural Resources of National Dong Hwa University. She is interested in forest ecosystem modelling. The master thesis of Chia-Hsin Wu was the growth simulation of the yellow cypress forest at the CLM site using BIOME-BGC model. Her PhD work tries to understand the change of carbon and water budgets with the change of land-use type in eastern Taiwan.
